Check On Kili
Maybe some of you are used to living in the shadow of an enormous and godlike dormant volcano. I’m still not. Mt. Kilimanjaro has inspired everyone from Ernest Hemingway (he wrote about it) to Jessica Biel (she climbed it in a blizzard while being filmed). The snowcap that gives it its name (“kilima” = Swahili for “mountain”; “njarro” = Kichagga for “whiteness”) is disappearing, so look while you can. If I told you that locals consider it a good sign when Kili looks particularly snowy, would you check every day? What if I told you that I consider it a good sign? What if I told you that you should just look at Kili, alright? Yeesh.
