There’s an insightful phrase that you’ll likely hear if you visit Mongolia: Never trust the morning sun. If it’s sunny and warm in the morning, soak it in because it won’t be like that for long. Mongolians will often tell you that you can experience all four seasons in one day. Believe it. Temperature and weather fluctuations in the city and the countryside alike are frequent and extreme. In the summer months, the highs can reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit and lows below freezing. In the winter months, highs can reach 20 degrees Fahrenheit and lows down to -50 degrees. Don’t just pack layers; carry them with you wherever you go. You never know when you'll be missing that beautiful and deceitful sunrise.
