Grand Prize Winner
[Suva, Fiji] This family sells duruka, which has been dubbed by my host mother as "Fiji's version of asparagus." The photo was taken at the central produce market in Fiji's capital city, Suva. Since Fiji is a developing nation, the local markets are an essential component of the economy: They provide an income for vendors and reasonable prices for consumers on a tight budget. The busy market in Suva also doubles as a vibrant point of convergence and represents the strong social ties between Fijians.
