Where I have been thus far!

November 29, 2009 @ 3:43 PM | Permalink

I started my travels abroad in April 2008, and so far I have been to eight countries: France, Germany, Canada, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Belize, and Mexico.

(I have also lived in California, New York State, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. I have been to Florida, Utah, Nevada(VEGAS baby!), Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island,Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Florida.)

I have...

lived with a family in France.

seen many of the major sights in Paris: the Louvre, Versailles, Musee d'Orsay, Champes Elysees, L'Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, Montmartre and Sacre Coeur.

shopped in Germany.

partied in Montreal.

ventured through the streets of Cusco, during which many protests were going on.

been to Machu Picchu and climbed Wayna Picchu (the higher mountain there that takes one into the clouds).

gotten stuck on PeruRail for seven EXTRA hours while they tried to fix the rail that had broken when a landslide came. We left at 5pm and didn't get back until 4AM. It was supposed to be a 3/4 hour ride! They had no food, save for candy bars, people were yelling with the staff and sleeping in the aisles.

taken a three day bus ride from Peru to Ecuador (and I mean 3 buses of twenty-two hours each...and you can't do a number 2 on the buses. just imagine. and the guy behind me smelt like he had taken the liberty to just dirty himself instead of asking the driver to pull over).

had to have hired guards with concealed guns escort my travel companion and I across the most dangerous boarder crossing from Peru into Ecuador. We walked through an intensely crowded market where chickens and crabs hung from ropes, pig heads were for sale, and people tried to slash my companions bag.

learned to surf in Ecuador.

farmed on a wildlife sanctuary in Costa Rica. There, we slept in the jungle, worked with monkeys, anteaters, porcupines, birds, and a kinkajou. I showered in a contraption that collected water in a bucket and was carried from a tube over my head. The chickens liked to stay in the 'shower'. So I showered with them.

sailed down the coast of Belize on a 3-day 2-night adventure, where we camped on Islands in the caribbean, ate all the food we could want (including fresh caught fish and conch from the ocean), went snorkeling in the second largest reef in the world, and drank all the rum punch we could muster. The 3 guys running the boat were rastafarian badasses! (cost=$150 and the best deal in existence).

camped on the beach in Placencia, Belize during Semana Santa. And if one doesn't know about Semana Santa, it's crazy. Imagine fourth of july (celebrated in USA), take that, multiply it by 10 times, stick it on the beach, make it a week long celebration, add reggae music all night long and bikini competitions, along with drinking on the beach all night long, and one has Semana Santa in Belize.

had some strange guy try to break into our tent in Belize, and by that I mean, at 4am, I hear the zipper being pulled open, started to yell, and the guy wouldn't back up until my male companion yelled at him! ( I sure hope he wasn't trying to attack me!) He claimed that he only wanted to see if we wanted to buy some weed. At 4 am? right.

been to an underground cave turned bar/restaurant in Mexico

been to Cozumel

gone to Chichen Itza ( that makes it world wonder # 2 that I have been to)

and I still have many more travels to go!

Next Stop: Italy and Greece for a 10 day adventure!
